Chye Seng Huat Hardware @Kallang

When my friend, Mak brought me here, I was standing right in front of this Chye Seng Huat Hardware (CSHH) and asked him, "Where is the coffeehouse?" He said, "In front of you." I was like..."What???" After peeking in, I saw a lot of people and coffee machines, then I started to believe it is a coffeehouse. Jeez, they got to have a better name! FYI, this is not the entrance. The entrance is on the left side of this building.
This is really like a shell of a snail but it is a crab staying inside the shell. Unlike others, their coffee bar is located at the center of the coffeehouse.
This is the smoking area where actually you are going in to the CSHH from here. CSHH is one of the flagship of the famous Papa Palheta. From what I heard is this was a hardware shop selling metals, bolts, nuts and other relevant kind of hardware but creatively transform to this but still using the same name. The name of the building is collaboratively conceived by the landlord and Papa Palheta to pay tribute to the hardware heritage in this area.
If Papa Palheta is not really well known to you, here is a little story about them. Papa Palheta is an independent coffee boutique, specializing in roasting and purveying specialty coffee in Singapore and Malaysia. Their philosophy is simple, they are relentless in trying to bring out the best in the beans with their unique brewing and roasting techniques. Their roasters practice micro production methods, allowing them to be meticulous. They believe every coffee has its story so they always aim to source their beans with transparency and traceability. The profile of their coffees are tweaked and cupped to do justice to the beans and to the farmer.
Their desserts series is a little different than others especially their cakes. They do serve tea cake which not a lot of the cafe does that.
Another thing worth to note for is their Ang Ku Kueh which you do not usually see in a coffee house for sure.. There are 5 different types of Ang Ku Kueh selling here which are red bean, sweet potato, salted bean, yam and peanut. They are selling at S$1.00 a piece and S$3.80 for a set of any five.
Their choices of coffee are really simple. They do not have fancy type of coffee like you usually see in a coffee house such as Starbucks. Their coffee is just Espresso and you can choose either with milk or water or nothing at all. Their kitchen is closed at 5pm.
Papa Palheta is the distributor of Synesso, Rocket & Marco commercial machines in Singapore and Malaysia. They also carry other coffee making equipment, accessories and maintenance tools.Papa Palheta also drives C-Platform, an avenue where coffee enthusiasts & professionals can hone their coffee making skills. The Platform is equipped with coffee machines, gadgets & apparatus to allow one to understand and learn coffee beyond the bean. Workshops are held on weekdays & weekends.
If you wish to have a plain water, sugar, pepper or salt, do help yourself at their designated counter here. The furniture design here are very vintage which is very nice to see but not comfortable to sit.
The do play a nice background music here but definitely not from this record player. This is just their display. Hmm...seems like still can't find a tea house or a coffee house playing their music right from the vintage record player like this.
They have two different sizes which is only for espresso with milk only. The left is the mini size (S$4.00++) and right size (S$5.50++). The coffee will be thicker for the mini size. I am not a big fan of coffee but honestly I am telling you that this is the first time I am started to love coffee. The fragrance of coffee is very delightful and you do not feel much bitter taste in it.

If  they can make a non-coffee lover like me to start to fall in love in coffee, that means they have done a really good job. So imagine if you are a coffee lover and had a coffee here, I believe you will never seek for any other coffeehouse again. Do not worry Malaysian, they already set their footstep at Bangsar which is known as PULP. PULP resides within a historical printing plant which still functions since 1965. So do not feel puzzled if you are still not noticing when you are staying or working at Bangsar.
