Pulau Kapas, Terengganu

Pulau Kapas is located at Terengganu. The closest city to Pulau Kapas is Kuala Terengganu if you are planning to take a flight or a bus. From Kuala Terengganu to the pier will take around 20 minutes from the bus station and 35 minutes from the airport. The pier is known as Marang Jetty.
Unlike any other pier that I have been too, they do not have a designated ticket counter to sell the ferry ticket to Pulau Kapas. From the picture above, you can see a row of shops and they are all selling tickets to Pulau Kapas. Their price is about the same at RM20/pax/way. As for the time schedule, each company has different time. I bought mine from Suria Link which their departure time is starts from 9.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3.30pm. While coming back from Pulau Kapas is from 9.00am, 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm.
Pulau Kapas is not a big island with only 2km radius with most of the accommodation is facing the mainland which is the west side of the island.
Just next to Pulau Kapas there is a private island which is known as Pulau Gemia or in English is Gem Island offering a luxury accommodation with exclusive service.
This is the only island that I have been so far with such a ladder to climb down from the boat. While others most likely will make you soak half of your leg into the sea water.
The accommodation in Pulau Kapas is not too expensive at all compare with famous islands nearby such as Pulau Tenggol and Pulau Redang. It is starting from as low as RM50/pax/night.
As for the food choices here is not as luxury as any other island. You have limited food choices here. There are only less than 5 restaurants that is operating on this island. Some restaurants are pretty far away for you to travel especially during at night.
My favourite restaurnt is still this KGB restaurant with their delicious Kebab and smoked salmon croissant. You will definitely wouldn't want to miss those delicacies. They are absolutely scrumptious especially their home made garlic sauce that act as a dressing for their Kebab. Unfortunately, it is not really enjoying to dine at night because the mosquitoes on this island is so big and fierce.
Activities on this island can be seen when you enlarge on the picture above. The most unique activity which you may only find them on this island is the Squid Jigging. It is an overnight activity which cost RM1000/boat with the minimum of 10 pax. Basically it is fishing the squid activity. The squid is only active during the night and will response to any light during the night. So that is how you fish them. You can overnight on the boat until the next day 5.00am in the morning but for normal people, they can't stand with boat not moving in the sea and which usually will cause them seasick.
A cave on this island? Not really a cave. It is just 5 meters deep cave which becomes a rubbish dump.
The one and only dive center on this island which is known as the AquaSports. Each dive cost starts from RM90.00/pax inclusive all equipment. They only do two dives each day which is at 11.00am and 2.00pm
Since this island is just 5km away from the mainland, you are not expecting to see any bigger fish than this Giant Pufferfish. Even though there are plenty of small fishes, it is still a good experience for Open Water Divers because almost all their dive sites is not more than 18 meters. You will never be disappointed with the limited choices of dive sites that is eligible for you.
Apart of this stupid looking pufferfish, there are boxfish, treverly, moray eel, barracuda and lionfish.
There is a dive sites with white eyed moray eel almost everywhere. After more than 60 log dives in so many islands, I never seen this much of moray eel swarming around just one dive sites. Quite scary at times but it can be pretty excited if you really like moray eel.
Just small group of barracuda that can be spotted here. Overall, it is not a bad dive at all especially you can spend almost one hour in each dive because of the shallow diving depth.
Since we are facing the west, you can expect sunset here. The sunset is setting on the city. This view is very unique because only Pulau Kapas is able to provide to you with such a view in Malaysia.
A can of beer by the beach watching the sunset before mosquitoes coming out to annoy you. Perfect! LOL!
The sand here is quite fine and white but the problem is the dead corals and rocks are buried together with the sand. Each is hurting when you walk on it barefooted. The sea is very clear blue despite very close to the city. Pollution from the city has not reach this island yet. It is a best short trip choice for a family getaway. I saw people carrying all the barbecue equipment just to barbecue with friends on the island. Extremely enjoying moment!
