Restoran Goon Wah, Kuchai Lama

A lot of hidden good food in Kuchai Lama and one of them is Restoran Goon Wah. For the past 18 years, Restaurant Goon Wah has been delighting locals and foodies alike from its first outlet in Taman Kuchai Lama, with its unique menu, high quality produce and efficient service. Founded by husband and wife team, Mr and Mrs Lee, Restaurant Goon Wah specialises in making its famous XO Claypot Fish Head Noodles, prepared with fish imported from New Zealand. This delicacy, together with Goon Wah’s other delectable original dishes, is guaranteed to bring us unparalleled enjoyment and satisfaction. Established in 1997, Goon Wah has since grown to occupy three shop lots at its original site. Their other branches are at Damansara Jaya and Genting Highland.
I was at their main branch which you can see it was already full house by 12.00pm. You are advised to come early to avoid disappointment and also hunting for a parking space. There were some tables are reserved which I believe they do accept advanced booking.
Claypot Fish Head XO Noodle
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 3/5 - Unlike the usual fish head noodle, they do not contain any milk inside. This is definitely a good news for those who are allergic to dairy products. This their standard portion and it is really huge. Easily feed 2-3 persons. As for taste, the fresh fish taste is infused in their clear soup which bring you the true seafood taste in it. As for the noodles, it was so tangy which I finished every bit of it.

Treasure Box Claypot Lao See Fen
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - The other signature is their Lao See Fen. A claypot of treasures (“silver” needle noodles, “golden” deep fried shrimps, “black pearl” minced meat, “jade” scallions), served atop a flaming wooden pedestal. That's in their description but to me is just Lao See Fen which is kind of dry and dull. The first two bites was delicious but after that it is started to get queasy.

Baby Lamb Ribs in GW Special Sauce
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 3/5
Taste: 3/5
Overall: 3/5 - They have just successfully minimizing the gamey taste in the lamb ribs. It was cooked in a way it is not hard to chew and swallow. So it is suitable for all ages. Very thoughtful.

Fried Guinness Stout Chicken Wings
Outlook: 3/5
Creativity: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall: 3/5 - Chicken wings marinated with Guinness stout, honey and sesame seeds, deep fried to perfection. It was really fragrance and delicious. You won't taste any alcohol in it but it was really appetizing.

Their ABC was a little disappointed. Too stingy with their brown sugar which in the end I felt like I was eating a plain ice. However, as for the whole, I really do suggest their signature Claypot Fish Head XO Noodle and Fried Guinness Stout Chicken Wings. As for the others, I am not so convinced.
